Tetsuyum!

To celebrate my Mum and Dad's 60th birthdays I took us all to Tetsuya's for lunch. We had a 13 course degustation menu which included lots of seafood - oysters, caviar, smoked ocean trout (probably my favourite dish), crab, scampi, fresh ocean trout, barramundi as well as duck, veal, truffles, lentils and three different desserts! The food was exceptional, every dish had a fresh and unique flavour and was perfectly put together from the presentation to the balance of the tastes and textures to the matched wine which went with every course! It was an amazing experience and I am so glad I was able to treat my Mum and Dad to it without having too many arguments about the bill!

To cap the day off we went to the aquarium, a first visit for us all, and enjoyed the surprising large display of australian marine life followed up by a visit to the Opera House where the Sydney Symphony performed Mozart's Jupiter Symphony and Richard Strauss's Alpine Symphony. The alpine symphony was transporting, espically for a hiker such as myself, the composer takes you from predawn, through sunrise to the base of the mountain, you climb through forests and meadows to a glacier then on to the summit. As you start to descend the weather comes in and a storm crashes around you, then as you return to the beginning night falls and the mountain is again at peace. It was a fantastic performance with a large number (maybe 120 odd?) musicians on the stage (and sometime off it) and a massive dynamic range of sound and emotions. Loved it! All it all it was a fabulous day for all the senses!
