Lismore long weekend

Sorry for the silence, somehow 3 months slipped past without me getting my act together to update piggy heaven! The new job is good and keeping me busy but I'm feeling much more settled and on top of things now which is a good thing! So between the last blog and now the biggest news is that my hockey team won the grand final! My first grandfinal win ever! t was very exciting and was a great way to end the season.

So to the new news!

Paul and I neaded up to Lismore for the weekend for a wedding and a bit of a holiday. We flew up Friday morning and hired a car to explore the local neighbourhood. We had our accomodation booked for Saturday night but not Friday, so headed to the local information centre to find out where to go and find a place to stay. The friendly staff put us ont he right track and we set out. First to the small township of The Channon for a pub lunch then to Protester Falls, which were saved from logging in 1979 by a coordinated sit-in protest. The area is heritage reserved rainforrest and beautiful, if a little leach infested as we discovered to our detriment.

Next stop Nimbin, the hippy capital of Australia, which was a bit disappointing. Its very colourful, but there was auniformity and commercialism to it and a seediness around the edges that did not make me feel like I wanted to stay!

We left Nimbin and headed towards our accomodation near the small town of Clunes. It was a lovely drive through the countryside with diary farms, orchards and macadamia plantations and the remains of wild bush and rainforests always around the fringes. Very pretty! Our abode for the night, Suzanne's Hideaway, on a macadamia plantation was lovely, a peaceful quite spot with district views.

For dinner we headed to the Eltham pub for a good hearty country pub meal and a spot of local news.
